[The man's face remains impassive, right up until Ryder mentions medicine. His brows shoot right up. Maddison stops part way up the ladder, turning to look back. The man tries to school his expression back under control. Cecily cuts in first.]

"Working toilets? And food? Aw, can we go, we gotta--"

[The man shoots her a sharp look and her pink runners stop kicking. He makes an attempt to salvage things, speaking pointedly to Ryder and Cecily both.]

We don't tend to be the sort to stay in one place. A nice night might be only one single night.

But the medicine is still worth the place and more. [Maddison doesn't seem to like speaking up against her Father, given the way she frowns, but she sticks to it.] We've been understocked. I don't think we should pass this up.

[He all but growls, narrowing his eyes at his daughters. But then, he faces Ryder again.]

Take my eldest on ground. [Maddison starts climbing back down.] Cecilia, back on watch--

"What! I wanted to go..."

On. Watch. Until your sister returns. [And to Ryder.] I'd better not regret this. [With Maddison down and stepping to Ryder's side, the man starts climbing up in her stead. The girl nods without a lick of enthusiasm.]
